DIY: Muscle Tee

I'm back! Yeah! On Monday morning I presented my last ever university assessment piece (relief!) and now I can move on with my life.

Hooray! So to get back into things with Vacant Lake I decided to do a quick little Do It Yourself post.

Muscle singlets - tops that show off your guns (or in my case, lack thereof) are going to be major this summer and I give my absolute approval of them. My only problem was that for the exact kind I wanted I'd be spending about $30+ for basically a t-shirt with its arms cut off; there isn't even a hem. So I did just that myself, at home.

I bought this t-shirt from the boys (ages 7-16) section of Target. Favourite t-shirts ever. They come in a range of colours and only cost $5. This one is a size/age 10 and I normally wear a size 6/8 in womenswear, just to give you an idea of sizing. I chose a boys shirt because of the higher neckline, but mens sizes swim on me.

Instructions:

This one's pretty straight forward: cut along the black lines I've drawn in the above photo. It's a lot like cutting your hair; take off small amounts at a time. Start by cutting right along the seam of the sleeve, try it on and see if more needs to come off.

  1. I've tried this before and failed miserably! Thankyou especially for the photo showing where to cut the sleeves :)

  2. Ahh yes! I just did this today but you can also make the armholes bigger and have some side boob showing ;)
